the students and the chaperones all new this was a drinking and party trip, never considering the safety of the arrogant lifestyle this group lived.
blame this demanding stepford wife community. yes, they all look alike.
thank you for taking your children to try to hide their drug and alcohol behavior which you all think is invisible in you snob southern, birmingham facade. prey on the inocent lifestyle you would like the general public to believe. the parents new what they were sending these students to, thinking the low budget was ok. in fact lower than the vestavia or riverchase club dues. right.

While I cannot imagine the living hell Natalie's family is going through and would have done exactly the same thing in her mother's position, I don't think boycotting the island will help. The chaperones failed here and Natalie's friends failed as well.
Let's say for a moment that all of the students were 18 at the time of the trip. So what ? Does turning 18 automatically mean responsible thinking ? Absolutely not. To that regard, there should have been a chaperone present wherever these kids went, especially since some of them were NOT 18. This includes Carlos and Charlie's, where the door should have been monitored to make sure that no student "left with a local."
As for Natalie's friends, they should have NEVER allowed her to leave that club with vanDer Sloot. I don't care how charming he seemed. It's likely that they themselves had too much to drink to ask themselves "Would Natalie's mother let her leave with this guy?" and then act on that "NO!"
It is also quite possible that something was put in Natalie's drink to cloud her judgement and make it seem that she had more to drink than one or two. All the more reason that she should have not been allowed to leave.
Bottom line - If NO adult chaperones were there for the friends to enlist in preventing Natalie from leaving Carlos & Charlie's, and the friends themselves weren't thinking clearly enough to help, this is how Natalie ended up suffering the fate she did at the hands of vanDer Sloot.
I've been to Aruba twice since Natalie disappeared and I can assure you that the local Arubans feel that vanDer Sloot did it, and the Kalpoe brothers helped with the cover up but more importantly, HIS OWN FATHER DID.
Here's how it works in Aruba - The Dutch (and I absolutely LOVE the majority of the Dutch people on the island, like that marvelous reporter who won't stop until vanDer Sloot is convicted for murdering Natalie) oligarchy on the island (which means "rule by a few" Dutch higher ups who are protection Paulus and therfore Joran vanDer Sloot) is far more likely to go after a black islander as they did those innocent security guards who had nothing to do with it or after the Surinamese Kalpoes than they are a "golden boy" like vanDer Sloot.
That's why the Kalpoes mother is tormented. She knows the role her son's played in the cover up, and wants them to come clean, but does NOT want them punished for what vanDer Sloot did. This is what would definitely happen as the govenment would find a way to reverse the situation so that the Kalpoes would be charged with murder and vanDer Sloot as an accomplice after the fact.
